Rajendra Nath Lahiri (born June 29, 1901 – died December 17, 1927) was an important Indian freedom fighter. He was a key person in the Indian independence movement, working to free India from British rule. Rajendra Lahiri was involved in major events like the Kakori conspiracy and the Dakshineshwar bombing. He was a member of the Hindustan Republican Association, a group that wanted India to be independent.

Early Life

Rajendra Lahiri was born on June 29, 1901. His birthplace was Lahiri Mohanpur village in the Pabna District. This area was part of the Bengal Presidency in British India. Today, it is in Bangladesh. His family belonged to the Bengali Brahmin community. His father, Kshitish Mohan Lahiri, owned a large property there.

Joining the Fight

Rajendra Lahiri became involved in the Dakshineswar bombing incident. After this event, he moved to Benares. There, he continued his studies at Banaras Hindu University. He was studying for his M.A. in History. Around this time, revolutionary activities began to grow in the United Provinces. This area is now known as Uttar Pradesh. Rajendra Lahiri joined the Hindustan Republican Association. He joined with some of his friends from Bengal.

The Kakori Plan

Rajendra Lahiri was a key planner behind the Kakori train robbery. This event happened on August 9, 1925. He was later arrested for the Dakshineswar bomb case. He was sent to jail for ten years. When legal steps began for the train robbery, he was also included. He was tried in the Kakori conspiracy case. Many other freedom fighters were tried with him in Lucknow.

His Final Days

After a long trial, Rajendra Lahiri was found responsible. He was executed in the Gonda district jail. This happened on December 17, 1927. This was two days earlier than planned. Three other freedom fighters were also executed with him. They were Thakur Roshan Singh, Ashfaq Ullah, and Ram Prasad Bismil.
