Ramón Sota Ocejo (born April 23, 1938 – died August 28, 2012) was a famous Spanish professional golfer. He was born and passed away in Pedreña, Cantabria, Spain. Ramón Sota was known for winning many golf tournaments around the world. He was also the uncle of another very successful Spanish golfer, Seve Ballesteros.

Ramón Sota's Golf Career
Ramón Sota won many important golf tournaments. These included national opens in Europe, which later became part of the European Tour.
Major Wins and Achievements
- He won his home country's tournament, the Spanish Open.
- He also won the Portuguese Open three times.
- In 1965, he won the French Open and the Brazil Open.
- He was the Spanish professional champion four times.
In 1965, Ramón Sota achieved something special at the U.S. Masters. He finished 6th, which was the best result for any European golfer at that time. He also finished 10th in the European Order of Merit in 1971. This was just before the official start of the new European Tour.
Later Career and Retirement
Ramón Sota only played on the official European Tour for one season in 1972. During a tournament called the Double Diamond International, he was the first player in Britain to be penalized for playing too slowly. This incident made him feel very embarrassed, and he decided to retire from golf soon after. However, he did return to play on the European Seniors Tour for a few years in the mid-1990s.
Ramón Sota's Legacy
Ramón Sota created the Club de Golf Ramon Sota in Marina de Cudeyo. This club has a 9-hole golf course and a golf school. It helps new golfers learn the game. He passed away in August 2012 from pneumonia.
