Konidela Ram Charan (born March 27, 1985) is an Indian actor, producer, and businessman who mainly works in Telugu cinema. He is one of the highest-paid actors in India and is famous for his amazing dancing skills. Since 2013, he has been on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list, which names the most powerful celebrities in the country. Charan has won many awards for his acting, including four Filmfare Awards.
Charan's first movie was the action film Chirutha (2007), which was a big success. He became very famous after starring in the fantasy action movie Magadheera (2009). At the time, it was the highest-grossing Telugu film ever made. He continued to star in popular movies like Racha (2012), Naayak (2013), and Dhruva (2016).
His success grew even more with the blockbuster films Rangasthalam (2018) and RRR (2022). The movie RRR became the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time and made Charan famous across India and around the world. For his role in RRR, he was nominated for a Critics' Choice Super Award for Best Actor in an Action Movie.
In 2016, Charan started his own movie production company called Konidela Production Company. Besides movies, he owns a polo team called the Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club.

Early Life and Family
Ram Charan was born in Madras (now called Chennai) on March 27, 1985. His father is the famous actor Chiranjeevi, and his mother is Surekha. His family comes from the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. His grandfather on his mother's side, Allu Ramalingaiah, was also a well-known actor. Charan has two sisters.
He went to several schools, including Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan in Chennai and St. Mary's College in Hyderabad. He also went to an acting school in Mumbai to train for his career in movies. In 2024, he received an honorary doctorate from Vels University in Chennai.
Acting Career
2007–2009: A Strong Start
In 2007, Ram Charan made his acting debut in the movie Chirutha. He played a man trying to find his father's killer. People liked his performance, especially his dancing and action scenes. For this role, he won a Filmfare Award for Best New Actor.
His second film, Magadheera (2009), made him a superstar in Tollywood. In this fantasy film directed by S. S. Rajamouli, he played two different characters. Critics praised his acting, saying he brought his heroic role to life. Magadheera was a huge hit, earning over ₹150 crores and becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film at that time. Charan won another Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance.
2010–2015: Trying New Roles

In 2010, Charan starred in the romance film Orange. Although it wasn't a big box office hit at first, many people now consider it a cult film and appreciate its story. After a year away from the screen, he returned in Racha (2012), playing a gambler. The movie was a commercial success.
In 2013, he starred in Naayak, where he played a double role again. The film was a hit with audiences. That same year, he acted in his first Hindi movie, Zanjeer, alongside Priyanka Chopra. However, the movie did not do well.
The next year, he appeared in Yevadu (2014), where he played a man who gets a face transplant. Later that year, he starred in the family drama Govindudu Andarivadele, which was well-received by critics and audiences. In 2015, he played a stunt performer in the action-comedy Bruce Lee: The Fighter.
2016–Present: Blockbuster Hits and Global Fame

Charan's career reached new heights with the action-thriller Dhruva (2016). He played a police officer, and the film was a big success. Critics said he looked his fittest and gave a great performance.
In 2018, he starred in Rangasthalam, a historical action-drama. He played Chitti Babu, a partially deaf man from a small village. Many critics called it his best performance ever. The movie was a massive success, becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film of that year. For this role, Charan won his second Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
His biggest success came with the 2022 film RRR, directed by S. S. Rajamouli. He co-starred with N. T. Rama Rao Jr., and they played two real-life Indian freedom fighters. The movie was praised by critics all over the world. RRR became the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Charan's performance earned him international attention and his third Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
He also appeared with his father Chiranjeevi in the movie Acharya (2022). In 2025, Charan starred in the film Game Changer, directed by S. Shankar.
Other Work and Philanthropy
Business and Production
Ram Charan is a skilled horse rider and started his own polo team, the Ram Charan Hyderabad Polo Riding Club, in 2011. He was also involved with the airline TruJet.
In 2016, he launched his own movie studio, Konidela Production Company. The company's first film was his father's 150th movie, Khaidi No. 150 (2017), which was a huge success. The studio also produced the big-budget film Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019). In 2023, he partnered with UV Creations to start another production company, V Mega Pictures.
Helping Others
Charan is known for his charity work and often organizes blood donation camps. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he and his father started oxygen banks through their family's charitable trust. These banks provided much-needed oxygen to hospitals in different parts of India.
Personal Life
Ram Charan is married to Upasana Kamineni. She is the vice-chairman of Apollo Charity and the granddaughter of the founder of Apollo Hospitals. They got engaged in December 2011 and married on June 14, 2012, in Hyderabad. The couple had their first child, a daughter, on June 20, 2023.
Charan is very spiritual and participates in a 41-day-long religious practice called Ayyappa Deeksha every year. He says this helps him de-stress and find inner peace.
In the Media
Charan is often called the "Mega Power Star" by fans and the media. This nickname combines the "Mega Star" title of his father, Chiranjeevi, and the "Power Star" title of his uncle, Pawan Kalyan. He has been on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list many times since 2013.
His popularity is not just in India. After his movie Magadheera was released in Japan, he became very popular there. A Japanese food company even put his picture on their cookie packages. As of 2024, he is one of the most-followed Telugu actors on Instagram.
