History of Ramah
Ramah's story began in a nearby place called Old Zounds. This spot was about 27 miles southeast of Kiowa. Old Zounds even had a post office, known as O.Z., until at least 1881.
From Old Zounds to Ramah
The post office from Old Zounds moved to Ramah in 1889. Ramah started as a busy town for the Rock Island Railroad in the late 1800s. The town officially became a "Statutory Town" on July 18, 1927.
Ramah's Railroad Days
At its busiest, Ramah was home to hundreds of people. The railroad was very important because it connected Ramah to Colorado Springs, which is about 40 miles southwest.
Changes Over Time
By the mid-1900s, the railroad stopped running. This was a big challenge for Ramah, as the railroad was its main link to other places. Even though the town became smaller, Ramah still exists today. Ranching is now the most important part of its economy.
Geography of Ramah
