Randy Beverly Jr. was born on December 24, 1966. He is an American football coach who has led teams in Italy and Sweden. He coached the Rams Milano American Football Club in Italy and the Örebro Black Knights in Sweden. Randy Beverly Jr. is also the son of Randy Beverly, a famous former football player. His dad played as a defensive back for teams like the New York Jets and the New England Patriots.
Early Life and College Football
Randy Beverly Jr. was born in 1966 in Cape May, New Jersey. He went to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). There, he played college football as a defensive back and return specialist for the UCLA Bruins.
In 1984, Randy was named the Top Football Player in Suffolk County, NY. He also earned honors like First-Team All Long Island. He was a National Consensus All-American player from Central Islip High School in New York. He played as a quarterback, defensive back, and kick return specialist.
In 1985, he first planned to play for the University of Notre Dame. However, after a coaching change, he decided to join UCLA instead. He became a co-captain for the UCLA Bruins. His team was highly ranked and played in the Rose Bowl and won Pac-10 titles between 1986 and 1989. A cool moment in his college career was blocking a kick in the 1987 Aloha Bowl game. This was against Emmitt Smith and the Florida Gators.
Randy Beverly Jr. also worked with NFL teams and their coaching staffs. These teams included the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, and Cleveland Browns. In 2015, he was honored by being added to the Central Islip, New York Sports Hall of Fame. This was for his time as a quarterback on a winning high school team in the 1980s.
Coaching Career and Other Work
Randy Beverly Jr. has had a successful coaching career. In 2015, he coached the Örebro Black Knights in Sweden. He led them to the Superserien Championship Final, which is like their Super Bowl. The Örebro Black Knights finished that season ranked 12th among the Top 20 American Football Teams in Europe and the Americas. Sports Illustrated even wrote about his success with the team that year.
Before that, from 2010 to 2014, Beverly coached the Rams Milano Football Club in Italy. He led them to the playoffs four times in five seasons. The Rams played in four FIF Italian League Championships. They won Super Bowls 33 and 35 under his leadership. In the 2014 season, his team's offense scored 233 points in just the first four games. This meant they averaged over 50 points per game! Their defense also played great, stopping opponents from scoring in two of those four games.
Besides coaching, Randy Beverly Jr. works for the United States Government. He is a federal contractor based in Milan, Italy. He is also a talented video game designer. He works as a consultant for sports and entertainment technology companies in Europe. His work in gaming started with helping to design AI (Artificial Intelligence) for Electronic Arts' popular game, John Madden NFL Football.
In 2004, Beverly worked with the National Football League. He helped create new training technologies for players. He is known for building the first-ever virtual reality training program for sports.
