Steven Randall Jackson (born October 29, 1961) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and dancer. He is famous for being part of the Jackson family, a very talented musical family. Randy is the youngest brother in the Jackson family. He is also the second youngest of all the Jackson siblings, just before his sister Janet.

Randy used to be a member of his family's band, The Jacksons. He joined the group after his older brother Jermaine left. At that time, the band was known as The Jackson 5. Randy was even nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on the album Triumph in 1980.

Randy Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana. His parents are Joseph Jackson and Katherine Jackson. He is the ninth child in the famous Jackson family. Randy is the youngest of the brothers. When the Jackson 5 band first started in 1965, Randy was only 3 years old. Because he was so young, he was not an original member of the group.

Music Career

Joining The Jacksons

Randy first performed live with his brothers in 1971. This was at a special Christmas show for children who were blind. Even though he was on every Jackson 5 tour starting in 1972, he mostly played instruments like the congas.

Randy officially joined the family band in 1975. This happened when the band left Motown Records to sign with CBS Records. His older brother Jermaine chose to stay with Motown. So, Randy stepped in to take his place. The band then changed its name to the Jacksons. They did this because Motown owned the name "Jackson 5". When he was 16, Randy helped write one of the Jacksons' biggest songs, "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)". He wrote it with his brother Michael.

In March 1980, Randy was in a car accident in Hollywood, California. He recovered well from the accident. In June 1980, he was featured on the cover of Jet magazine. The headline said he was walking again and talked about his future.

Randy plays many instruments. These include congas, percussion, keyboards, piano, bass guitar, and guitar. He sang and played on the Jacksons' songs. He also worked with Michael on his album Off the Wall. Randy was part of many of the Jacksons' tours. These included the Destiny World Tour (1979-1980), the Triumph Tour (1981), and the Victory Tour (1984).

After the Victory Tour, Randy worked with Lionel Richie. He helped with Richie's album Dancing on the Ceiling in 1985. Randy also joined his brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and his sister La Toya. They sang in the famous song "We Are the World". This song was led by his brother Michael, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, and Harry Belafonte.

In 1997, the Jackson 5 were added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, only the five original members were inducted. Randy was not included at that time.

Randy was part of the Jacksons' reunion in 2001. This concert was held at Madison Square Garden. He also sang backing vocals with his brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Jermaine. This was for Michael's song "This Is It".

After The Jacksons

After recording their album 2300 Jackson Street, the group decided to work on their own projects in 1990. After this, Randy started his own band called Randy & the Gypsys. They released one album before the band broke up. In 1998, Randy started his own record label called Modern Records.

Rhythm Nation Records

Today, Randy is a partner with his sister, Janet Jackson. They work together at her independent record label, Rhythm Nation Records. In August 2018, Randy and Janet announced a partnership. Their label teamed up with Cinq Music, a music publisher and distributor. On August 17, 2018, Janet Jackson's song "Made for Now" was released. Randy helped write this song.

Randy Jackson has three children. He was married to Eliza Shaffy from August 1989 to 1992. They have one daughter together, born in 1990. Randy also has two children with Alejandra Oaziaza, born in 1989 and 1992.

Michael Jackson's Memorial

Michael Jackson's memorial service took place on July 7, 2009. It was held at the Staples Center. To honor their brother, Randy and his brothers Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine, and Tito were pallbearers. They each wore a special sparkly white glove and sunglasses.
