History of Ransom
Ransom was named after a person called Thomas E. G. Ransom. The first post office opened in 1887. It was first called Ogdensburgh for a short time. In 1888, its name changed to Ransom. The town officially became a city in 1905.

Public Schools and Districts
The public schools in Ransom are part of the Western Plains USD 106 school district. The high school team mascot is the Bobcats. Ransom High School used to be a separate school. It closed when it joined with Bazine USD 304 in 2004. This created the USD 106 district. The Ransom Longhorns, the former high school team, won state championships in Track & Field in 1972 and 1999.
Community Library
Ransom also has its own public library. It is called the Ransom Public Library.
