Tinashe Fazakerley (born on April 4, 1984) is a talented singer and songwriter. He was born in Zimbabwe and is now known by his stage name, Rationale. Before this, he was known as Tinashé. He is famous for his cool R&B and indie pop music, which often includes electronic sounds. When he was Tinashé, his music had a synth-pop feel and some African influences.

Growing Up: Rationale's Early Life

Tinashe Fazakerley was born in a place called Highfield in Harare, Zimbabwe. When he was nine years old, he moved to the United Kingdom with his three brothers and sisters. They settled in Camberwell, a part of London, where his mom worked as a nurse.

Later, at age eleven, Tinashe moved to another London area called Hackney. This is when music became a really big part of his life. He started learning to play the guitar. He listened to many different artists, from rock legends like Jimi Hendrix to pop icons like Prince. He also enjoyed hip-hop artists like Tupac Shakur.

Rationale's Music Journey

Starting Out as Tinashé (2009–2014)

In 2010, Tinashe released an album called Saved under his first stage name, Tinashé. Before that, he had released a few shorter music collections called EPs and some singles. However, his music didn't become widely popular at that time.

After this, he took a break from singing himself. Instead, he focused on writing songs and producing music for other artists. He worked with a producer named Mark Crew. Together, they wrote songs for artists like Rag'n'Bone Man. He also wrote songs for the Swiss version of the TV show The Voice.

Becoming Rationale (2015–Present)

In 2015, Tinashe started his music career again, but this time as Rationale. He released new songs like "Fast Lane" and "Something for Nothing" online. He shared them on music platforms like SoundCloud and Spotify. This is where he really started to get noticed.

Famous musician Pharrell Williams even talked about Rationale on his radio show, OTHERtone. Pharrell said that Rationale had "found the beauty in their voice." This helped "Fast Lane" become very popular. It quickly reached number two on the Spotify Global Viral Chart. It also got over 1.3 million listens on SoundCloud. Other famous artists like Justin Timberlake and Elton John also praised Rationale's music.

Rationale was one of the first artists to sign with a new record label called Best Laid Plans. This label was started by Dan Smith, who is the lead singer of the band Bastille.

Rationale released his first album, also called Rationale, on October 6, 2017. It was released through Warner Music UK.

Rationale has also written and produced songs for other big artists. For example, he helped write the song "Act My Age" on Katy Perry's 2017 album, Witness. His song "Tethered" has even been performed live by Ellie Goulding.

In 2019, Rationale was featured on Big Wild's album Superdream. He sang on the song "6's to 9's". In 2021, he was featured on Model Man's album, singing on the song "Esc (Holding Back)". He has continued to release new music, with his latest single "Feel It Coming" released in 2024.
