Reggie Barnes's Early Football Days

College Career

Reggie Barnes played college football at Delaware State University. He was a fantastic runner there. In 1988, he ran for 1,336 yards. During his entire college career, he gained an amazing 3,282 yards.

After college, Reggie was not chosen in the NFL draft. However, he still got a chance to play professional football. In 1989, he signed with the New York Jets. He spent that whole season practicing with the team.

Becoming a CFL Star

Joining the Ottawa Rough Riders

In 1990, Reggie Barnes moved to Canada. He joined the Ottawa Rough Riders in the CFL. He quickly made a big impact. In his first year, he rushed for 1,260 yards. He also scored 5 touchdowns.

Reggie's amazing performance earned him the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie Award. This award goes to the best new player in the league. It was a special year for Ottawa. The team's quarterback, Damon Allen, also ran for over 1,000 yards.

Setting Records

Reggie proved his first season was not just luck. In 1991, he had his best year ever. He set a team record for rushing yards. He ran for an incredible 1,486 yards! He also scored 10 rushing touchdowns. The Ottawa Rough Riders finished that season with 7 wins and 11 losses.

Later Career and Retirement

After his time with the Ottawa Rough Riders, Reggie played for other teams. He played for the Shreveport Pirates and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1994. In 1995, he played for the Toronto Argonauts.
