Reginald L. "Reggie" Joule, Jr. (born July 14, 1952) is a well-known politician from Alaska, USA. He served as the mayor of the Northwest Arctic Borough for three years, starting in 2012. Before that, he was a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 1997 to 2012, representing the 40th District as a Democrat. He decided to retire from public service after his term as mayor ended.

Reggie Joule's Time in the Legislature
Before January 2008, Reggie Joule was a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. He worked with other politicians to make important decisions for Alaska.
In the House, Joule was part of the Finance Committee. This committee helps decide how the state's money is spent. He also led subcommittees focused on health, social services, and environmental protection. He helped make choices about funding for the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Joule was also on a special committee that looked at economic development, trade, and tourism. He worked on how to fund education in different parts of Alaska.
Reggie Joule as Mayor
While serving as the mayor of the Northwest Arctic Borough, Reggie Joule was chosen by President Obama to join a special task force. This group helped prepare states, local areas, and tribal communities for the effects of climate change.
As mayor, Joule was very happy to welcome the US President to the Alaskan Arctic. This was a historic visit for the President to see how climate change was affecting villages. Joule wanted to show the importance of local communities getting ready for these changes.
He decided to step down after one term as mayor. Clement Richards Sr. took over his role. Today, Joule is also part of an advisory board for a group called 'Polar Research and Policy Initiative'. This group studies the polar regions.
Reggie Joule's Personal Life
Reggie Joule is married to Linda, and they have five children: Lovisa, Reggie III, Angela, Dawn, and Puyuk.
Joule finished high school at Copper Valley High School in 1970. He then attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks from 1970 to 1972.
Before becoming a politician, Joule worked as a contractor, building and maintaining buildings.
Reggie Joule and the World Eskimo Indian Olympics
Reggie Joule is also famous for his skills in the World Eskimo Indian Olympics. He was once a champion in the nalukataq, also known as the blanket toss. This is a traditional game where people are tossed high into the air using a walrus hide or canvas blanket.
Because of his achievements, he was added to the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
Joule even appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson twice! He was on the show on August 1, 1973, and again on June 24, 1983. Both times, he showed off the amazing skills he used in the World Eskimo Indian Olympics.
