The Regina Medal is a special literary award given out every year. The Catholic Library Association presents this award. It honors one living person. This person has made a "continued, distinguished contribution" to children's literature. This means they have done amazing work for a long time. Their work helps kids enjoy reading and learning.
The award started in 1959. It is managed by the Children's Library Services Section. Sometimes, the winners are not just writers or illustrators. They might be librarians, teachers, or others. These people also help children discover the joy of books.
When the Regina Medal celebrated its 60th anniversary, people looked back at its history. They saw how much the winners' work has helped kids. Their contributions have had a huge impact. This includes helping with education, reading skills, art, and library services for children.
