René Syler, a well-known journalist and author.

René Syler (born February 17, 1963) is an American journalist and author. She is known for her work on television. From 2002 to 2006, René was a co-host on CBS News' The Early Show. During her career, she has interviewed many important people. These include First Lady Laura Bush and former President Jimmy Carter. She also spoke with famous people like the musician Prince.

Early Life and Education

René Syler was born at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. She grew up in California, near Sacramento, California. She went to Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks, California. Later, she studied psychology at CSU-Sacramento. She graduated from college in 1987.

Journalism Career

René Syler started her journalism career in Reno, Nevada. She worked as a weekend reporter at KTVN-TV from 1987 to 1989. After that, she became a weekend anchor at KOLO-TV. In 1990, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama. There, she was a weekend anchor at WVTM-TV.

In 1992, René joined WFAA-TV in Dallas, Texas. She anchored the morning and noon news shows there. From 1997 to 2002, she anchored newscasts at KTVT. This station is owned by CBS in Dallas.

On The Early Show

From 2002 to 2006, René Syler was a main anchor on CBS News' The Early Show. She worked alongside other well-known journalists.

After The Early Show

After leaving The Early Show in 2006, René stayed busy. She hosted a health show pilot for Fox. She also appeared as an expert on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. René was a guest on many other talk shows. These include The View and The Doctors. In 2010, she guest-hosted The Joy Behar Show on HLN.

In 2013, René became the host of Sweet Retreats. This show on the Live Well Network helps families find great vacation spots. She is also one of the hosts of Exhale on Aspire.

Awards and Recognition

René Syler has received several awards for her work.

  • In 1997, she was named Television Personality of the Year. This award came from American Women in Radio and Television.
  • In 2004, she won the Gracie Allen Award. This was for her series about breast cancer.
  • In 2005, Ebony Magazine honored her. They named her one of twelve Outstanding Women in Marketing and Communications.

René is also an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Good Enough Mother

In 2007, René Syler wrote her first book. It is called Good Enough Mother, the Perfectly Imperfect Book Of Parenting. She also created a website to go with it. René noticed that many mothers felt pressure to be "perfect." She uses her platform to help women feel good about their own parenting choices. She encourages them to do what works best for their families. She often speaks to groups and promotes her ideas about parenting and life.

Health Advocacy

René Syler's parents both had breast cancer. On her last day on The Early Show, she shared that she would have surgery to prevent breast cancer herself. Today, she is a spokesperson for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This is a large organization that fights breast cancer. René works to spread awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. She also helps empower Black women to talk more openly about breast cancer.

René Syler lives in Chappaqua, which is in Westchester County, New York.
