Reni Eddo-Lodge (born 25 September 1989) is a British writer and journalist. She writes mainly about feminism and how structural racism affects society. Structural racism means unfair systems that disadvantage people because of their race.
Reni has written for many well-known newspapers and magazines. These include The New York Times and The Guardian. She also contributed to a book called New Daughters of Africa in 2019.
In June 2020, her book Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race became very popular. It topped the UK non-fiction paperback chart. This happened after the George Floyd protests. It was the first time books by black British women topped both the fiction and non-fiction charts. On June 16, 2020, she became the first black British woman to be number one on the overall British book charts.

Early Life and Education
Reni Eddo-Lodge grew up in London, England. Her mother is from Nigeria. Reni went to St Anne's Catholic High School in Enfield.
She studied English literature at the University of Central Lancashire. She finished her studies in 2011. While at university, she became active in feminism. Feminism is about equal rights for all genders. She also joined the student protest movement in 2010.
Reni was the president of her university's students' union until 2012. She was also an elected member of the National Union of Students from 2012 to 2013.
Career as a Writer
As a freelance journalist, Reni Eddo-Lodge has written for many publications. These include The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Independent. She has also written for BuzzFeed and Vice.
Reni has appeared on BBC Radio shows. She discussed feminist issues on Woman's Hour and Night Waves. In April 2014, she was a judge for the BBC Woman's Hour Power List.
In July 2020, Reni worked with actress Emma Watson and the WOW Foundation. They started a project to rename London Underground stations. They wanted to name the 270 stops after women and non-binary people. These are people who have made a difference in London's history. This project will be published on International Women's Day in 2022.
Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race
In 2017, Reni Eddo-Lodge published her first book. It is called Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race. The book was released by Bloomsbury Publishing in June 2017.
Many people liked the book. The famous writer Marlon James said it was "essential." The book won the Jhalak Prize in March 2018.
Reni also created a podcast called About Race with Reni Eddo-Lodge. She made it with producer Renay Richardson. The podcast started in March 2018. It was named one of the best podcasts of 2018 by British GQ and Wired. The podcast explores Britain's modern relationship with race. It is a good companion to her book.
In January 2018, Reni was one of seven British women photographed for British Vogue. This was to celebrate 100 years of British women getting the right to vote. She was also listed in the Top 100 most influential people of African/African-Caribbean descent in the UK. This was for the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Powerlist.
Impact During Black Lives Matter Protests
In June 2020, Reni Eddo-Lodge's book became very popular. Sales of Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race went up a lot. This happened after the murder of George Floyd and the global Black Lives Matter protests. Black Lives Matter is a movement that protests against violence and racism towards black people.
Her book became the number one non-fiction book in the UK. At the same time, Bernardine Evaristo's novel topped the fiction chart. This was a historic moment for black British women writers. Reni said she was sad about the reasons for her book's success. On June 16, 2020, she became the first black British woman to be number one on the overall British book charts.
