Rensselaer is a village in Ralls County, Missouri, United States. The population was 253 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Hannibal Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Contents
History
Rensselaer was laid out in 1876. The community took its name from nearby Rensselaer Academy. A post office called Rensselaer was established in 1871, and remained in operation until 1953.
St. Peter's Catholic Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.01 square miles (5.21 km2), of which 1.96 square miles (5.08 km2) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km2) is water.

2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 228 people, 78 households, and 61 families living in the village. The population density was 116.3 inhabitants per square mile (44.9/km2). There were 87 housing units at an average density of 44.4 per square mile (17.1/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 100.0% White. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.4% of the population.
There were 78 households, of which 42.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.2% were married couples living together, 2.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 21.8% were non-families. 17.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 3.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.15.
The median age in the village was 34.5 years. 28.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 30.3% were from 25 to 44; 26.3% were from 45 to 64; and 9.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 49.6% male and 50.4% female.
