How Requínoa is Governed
Requínoa is a third-level administrative division in Chile. This means it has its own local government. It is managed by a municipal council. This council is led by an alcalde, who is like a mayor. The alcalde is chosen by the people in an election every four years.
The Alcalde and Council Members
From 2008 to 2012, the alcalde of Requínoa was Antonio Silva Vargas. He was an Independent politician, meaning he didn't belong to a specific political party.
The municipal council also had several members who helped make decisions for the commune. These members were:
- Daniel Elías Martínez Higueras (from the Socialist Party of Chile)
- María Eliana Berríos Bustos (from ILE)
- Rolando Andrés Guajardo Arévalo (from ILC)
- Hugo Alejandro Núñez Guerrero (from the Independent Democratic Union)
- Sergio Cabezas Díaz (from National Renewal)
- Francisco Odeón Caro Godoy (an Independent politician)
Representing Requínoa in Government
Requínoa is part of a larger area for elections. This area is called the 33rd electoral district. In the Chamber of Deputies (which is like one part of Chile's parliament), Requínoa is represented by Eugenio Bauer and Ricardo Rincón. They represent Requínoa along with people from other nearby communes like Mostazal, Graneros, and Rengo.
In the Senate (the other part of Chile's parliament), Requínoa is represented by Andrés Chadwick Piñera and Juan Pablo Letelier Morel. They represent the entire O'Higgins Region.
