Contents
The Woman, the Dragon, and the Child (12:1–6)
This part of the chapter describes a powerful vision seen in heaven.
A Great Sign Appears (Verse 1)
The chapter begins with a "great sign" appearing in heaven. This sign is a woman. She is described as being "clothed with the sun," meaning she is surrounded by light. The moon is under her feet, and she wears a crown of twelve stars on her head. This woman is a very important symbol in the story.
The Fiery Red Dragon (Verse 3)
Then, another sign appears in heaven: a huge, fiery red dragon. This dragon has seven heads and ten horns, and each head wears a crown. The Bible uses the word "dragon" to describe this creature. It is a symbol of evil.
The Woman Gives Birth (Verse 5)
The woman gives birth to a male child. This child is meant to rule all nations. After the child is born, he is quickly taken up to God and His throne. This means he is protected and safe with God. The Bible says this child will rule with a "rod of iron," which means he will rule with great power and justice.
Michael and the Dragon (12:7–12)

This section describes a big war that happens in heaven.
War in Heaven (Verse 7)
A war breaks out in heaven. Michael, who is a powerful angel, and his angels fight against the dragon. The dragon also has his own angels fighting with him. Michael is known in the Bible as a special guardian angel.
The Dragon is Thrown Out (Verse 9)
Michael and his angels win the battle. The great dragon is thrown out of heaven. The Bible tells us that this dragon is the "old serpent" from the Garden of Eden. He is also called the Devil and Satan, who tries to trick the whole world. He and his angels are thrown down to the earth.
Victory Through the Lamb (Verse 11)
The Bible says that those who fought against the dragon won because of "the blood of the Lamb." The "Lamb" here refers to Jesus Christ. They also won by telling others about their faith and by being willing to give up their lives for what they believed in. This means that faith in Jesus gives people power over evil.
The Dragon and the Woman (12:13–17)
After being thrown out of heaven, the dragon continues to chase the woman.
The Woman Escapes (Verse 14)
The woman is given "two wings of a great eagle." These wings help her fly away into the wilderness, to a safe place. There, she is cared for and protected from the dragon for a specific period of time. This escape is like how God protected His people in the past, helping them get away from danger.
The Earth Helps the Woman (Verse 16)
The dragon tries to harm the woman by sending a flood of water after her. But the earth helps the woman. The ground opens up and swallows the flood that the dragon sent. This shows how God can use unexpected ways to protect those He cares about.
