Revolver Island is a small island located in the cold lands of Antarctica. It is part of the Dannebrog Islands group, which belongs to the Wilhelm Archipelago. This archipelago is found near the Antarctic Peninsula.
The island is about 645 meters (2,116 feet) long from southwest to northeast. It is also 284 meters (932 feet) wide. Revolver Island covers an area of 8.77 hectares, which is about the size of 12 football fields. No one lives on this island, like many places in Antarctica.
Why is it called Revolver Island?
This island got its name because its shape looks a bit like a revolver handgun. Many islands in this area have names that describe what they look like. The name "Revolver Island" was given to it by Bulgarian researchers.
Where is Revolver Island?
Revolver Island is located at coordinates 65°02′58″S, 64°04′21″W. It is situated among other islands in the Wilhelm Archipelago. For example, it is about 1.06 kilometers (0.66 miles) southwest of Rollet Island. It is also 1.85 kilometers (1.15 miles) northwest of the western tip of Booth Island. Other nearby islands include Taralezh Island to the northeast and Pegas Island to the southeast. British maps first showed this island in 2001.
