RichGirl was an American R&B (Rhythm and Blues) singing group. It had four talented members: Audra Simmons, Christina "Brave" Williams, Kristal Lyndriette Smith, and Amber Streeter. The group's name, RichGirl, meant having a strong attitude and confidence. It was about being unique and talented, not about owning expensive things.
The group started with the help of music producer Rich Harrison. They were managed by Tina Davis. RichGirl looked up to famous groups like Destiny's Child, Spice Girls, SWV, En Vogue, and TLC. They also admired artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, and Michael Jackson.
RichGirl worked on their first album, which was supposed to come out in 2010 or 2011. They released a song called "24" with Bun B. They also released two official songs, "He Ain't wit Me Now (Tho)" and "Swagger Right". Even though these songs didn't become huge hits, the group released a free album called a mixtape. It was titled Fall in Love with RichGirl and came out on Valentine's Day in 2011. The group later broke up as each member started their own solo music careers.

How RichGirl Started Their Music Journey
Forming the Group: 2007–2008
RichGirl was formed in 2007 with the help of producer Rich Harrison. They signed with his label, Richcraft, and also with Jive Records. Kristal Lyndriette was only 15 when she first met Harrison. He remembered her talent and offered her a spot in the group when he decided to create it.
Christina "Brave" Williams also met Harrison when she was 16. She had been working on her music for three years. Brave had the idea for a girl group and helped pick the other members. She also came up with the name RichGirl and its meaning.
Amber "Sevyn" Streeter had been in another girl group before. Harrison found her on MySpace and signed her to his label. Audra Simmons moved to Los Angeles to start her solo career. She joined RichGirl after an open audition, being the only member found that way. Once the group was complete, all the members lived together in Atlanta.
Making Music and Touring: 2009–2010
RichGirl began working on their first album in 2009. They planned to release it in early 2010. Sevyn described the album as "motivational, empowering, fun, and honest." The girls helped write many of the songs and arranged their own vocals. They also worked with famous producers like Bryan-Michael Cox and The Underdogs.
In May 2009, RichGirl performed at the Teen Takeover event. They also got a big chance to open for Beyoncé on her "I Am... Tour" in North America. They performed a 15-minute set, including their song "He Ain't wit Me Now (Tho)" and a cover of "Over the Rainbow".
RichGirl's first official song release was "24's" featuring Bun B. It came out in February 2009. This song reached number eighty-three on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Their official first single, "He Ain't wit Me Now (Tho)", was released in June 2009. A music video for the song was directed by Ray Kay. The song reached number ninety-six on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Their next single was "Swagger Right", featuring Fabolous and Rick Ross. It was released in September 2010. Colin Tilley directed its music video. This song peaked at number seventy-two on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In September 2009, RichGirl also released a free collection of songs called an EP on their website. It included their singles and parts of other songs from their upcoming album.
New Paths: 2011–2012
RichGirl released their mixtape Fall in Love with RichGirl on Valentine's Day 2011. It was available for free download. In October 2011, their record label, Jive Records, was closed down. RichGirl, along with other artists, moved to the RCA Records label.
After their songs didn't become big hits, the group members started working on their own music. In October 2011, Kristal Lyndriette joined a new version of the group Pussycat Dolls. However, she was not chosen for the final lineup. On December 1, 2011, Lyndriette released her own collection of songs called Proclamation.
On March 21, 2012, Sevyn released a song called "Red Handed." She also announced that she was leaving RichGirl and had signed with Chris Brown's music company.
What Happened Next: 2013–Present
After leaving RichGirl, Sevyn Streeter changed her stage name to Sevyn Streeter. She released her first solo song, "I Like It," in October 2012. Its music video premiered on BET's 106 & Park. In May 2013, she released her second song, "It Won't Stop."
On April 24, 2012, Brave launched her own website. She confirmed that the group had broken up and that she was working on her solo music. Kristal Lyndriette signed with Tyrese Gibson's record label in June 2013. She is now a member of the girl group June's Diary. Audra Simmons is also working on new music in the studio.
RichGirl's Music Style
Sound and Voices

RichGirl's music was mainly R&B, but it also had elements of hip hop and pop. They were known for their "powerful pipes" and strong singing as a group of four. They could easily cover songs like Bruno Mars's "Grenade".
The girls often took turns singing different parts of a song. Then, they would sing together in harmony during the chorus. Critics said the group had "golden pipes," meaning their voices were amazing.
RichGirl told Rap-Up magazine that their music was "very honest." They wanted to "bring the singing back to the songs" because they felt it was missing in music. They saw themselves as a mix of En Vogue and the Spice Girls. They wanted to show individuality while still being a strong group.
Felipe Delerme from FADER magazine praised RichGirl's music. He said they brought back the "glory days" of R&B music. He called them a "multi-culti foursome," meaning a diverse group of four. He believed their success could bring back a simpler time in music.
Songwriting and Image

The name RichGirl meant having a certain attitude and confidence. It was about being unique and talented, not about material things. Brave said their sound was "very honest" and that "each song tells a specific story." The group wanted to bring more singing back into songs.
RichGirl was inspired by the sophisticated and classy look of En Vogue. When they were first reviewed, their image was described as "high-gloss." Each member had a unique personality they shared: Brave was a spoken-word poet, Lyndriette was a Southern belle, Sevyn was church-raised, and Audra was sassy.
The group was very involved in writing their music. Lyndriette and Audra said they were "very hands on when it comes to the songwriting." They would share ideas for what they wanted to sing about. Sevyn explained that because there were four of them, they had "four different stories." This allowed them to connect with listeners through their songs.
Brave and Lyndriette even created fun alter-egos for themselves on YouTube. Brave's was Kiki Bravery Hennessey, and Lyndriette's was Boom-Shika. These alter-egos appeared in webisodes to promote their song "Swagger Right."
