In 2010, about 774 people lived in Rich Creek. This was an increase from the 665 people who lived there in 2000. The town is part of a larger area called the Blacksburg-Christiansburg Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Geography
Rich Creek is found in the northwestern part of Giles County. It sits right next to the New River, where a smaller stream called Rich Creek flows into it. The exact spot is 37°23′2″N 80°49′19″W / 37.38389°N 80.82194°W.
A main road, U.S. Route 460, goes through the town. If you head south on this road for about 4 miles, you'll reach Narrows. Going west for about 3.5 miles takes you to Glen Lyn. The town of Pearisburg is about 9 miles southeast of Rich Creek.
Another important road, U.S. Route 219, starts in Rich Creek at US 460. It goes northeast for about 2 miles to Peterstown, West Virginia. This road then continues for a very long distance, about 535 miles, all the way to West Seneca, New York, which is near Buffalo.
The United States Census Bureau says that Rich Creek covers a total area of about 2.2 square kilometers (0.82 square miles). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny bit, about 0.05 square kilometers (0.02 square miles), being water.
