Richard Icasiano Gomez (born April 7, 1966) is a famous Filipino actor, TV host, and politician. He is also a skilled épée fencer. Since 2022, he has been a Representative for Leyte's 4th district. Before that, he served as the mayor of Ormoc from 2016 to 2022.
In the early 1990s, Richard Gomez was a very popular actor. He won many awards for his roles. He starred in movies like Super Islaw and The Flying Kids (1986) and Hihintayin Kita sa Langit (1991). He also appeared in the TV show Palibhasa Lalake from 1987 to 1998.
In 1998, he married actress Lucy Torres. She also became a politician later on. They even starred together in a TV show called Richard Loves Lucy. Richard Gomez continued to act in many films and TV shows. He also hosted popular talk shows like S-Files and Family Feud.
Richard Gomez also tried to enter politics several times. He faced some challenges at first. He lost in the 2007 Senate election. He also had trouble with residency rules when he tried to run for a local House seat in 2010. In 2013, he lost the mayoral election in Ormoc. However, he finally won the mayoral election in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019.

Early Life and Acting Career
Richard Gomez is the only child of Eddie Kelly Gomez, a race car driver, and Stella Suarez, an actress from the 1960s. His cousin, Pinky Suarez, was adopted by his parents and grew up like his sister. Richard was raised by his grandmother after his parents separated.
He was working at McDonald's when a talent manager named Douglas Quijano discovered him. Soon after, he became a model for Bench, a well-known Philippine clothing brand. His first movie role was in Hindi Mo Ako Kayang Tapakan in 1984.
In April 1998, Richard married Lucy Torres in Ormoc, Leyte. They live in Ormoc and have one daughter, Juliana Marie Beatriz, born in 2000. Juliana graduated with honors from the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance.
In 2002, Richard moved to the GMA network. He starred in the drama shows Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw and Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw Pa Rin. He also hosted S-Files. His first comedy show on GMA was Lagot Ka, Isusumbong Kita, which aired from 2003 to 2007. He also hosted the Philippine version of Family Feud.
Richard Gomez is fluent in Tagalog, English, and Cebuano.
Education and Learning
Richard Gomez has a strong educational background. He earned an Associate in Arts degree from the University of the Philippines Open University in 2009. In 2016, he completed his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA. He also earned a doctorate in public administration from the Cebu Technological University in 2019.
Political Journey
Richard Gomez's political career started with some challenges. In 2001, he was a nominee for the Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga (MAD) Partylist. His party won, but they were disqualified because they could not prove they represented a specific group. He then planned to run for governor of Bulacan province. However, he did not meet the residency rules. So, he ran as an independent in the 2007 Senatorial elections, but he lost.
In 2010, he tried to run for a seat in Congress for the 4th district of Leyte. But the Commission on Elections (Comelec) disqualified him. They said he did not live in Ormoc long enough. His wife, Lucy Torres-Gomez, ran instead and won. Richard then worked as his wife's chief of staff while she was a congresswoman.
In 2013, he ran for mayor of Ormoc City but lost. However, he was finally elected as Mayor in 2016. He was re-elected for a second term in 2019.
In 2022, Richard ran for a seat in Congress for the 4th district of Leyte. He switched places with his wife, who ran for mayor. Richard won the congressional election.
Sports Achievements
Richard Gomez is also a talented athlete. He was part of the Philippine team that won a gold medal in fencing. This was in the team men's épée event at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. In 2015, he won another gold medal for the Philippines at the Asian Master Fencing Championship.
Since 2016, he has been the president of the Philippine Fencing Association. He also leads the Philippine Modern Pentathlon Association.
