Making His Mark in 2022–23
Rico quickly moved up to the senior team. He was first named on the bench for Manchester City's opening match of the 2022–23 season. A week later, on 13 August 2022, he made his first appearance in the Premier League against AFC Bournemouth. He came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute.

First Start and Record-Breaking Goal
Rico got his first start in the Champions League on 2 November 2022. He scored a goal that helped his team come back from behind to win 3–1 against Sevilla. This goal was special because it made him the youngest player ever to score on his first Champions League start. He was 17 years and 346 days old. He also became Manchester City's youngest ever Champions League scorer. During this match, Rico experienced some unfair treatment from a few fans, which is something football organizations are working to stop.
