Rico played college football at Jackson State University. He was also part of several teams in the National Football League (NFL). Early Life and High School Sports
Rico Richardson grew up in Natchez, Mississippi. He went to Natchez High School, where he was a star athlete. He played high school football and was very good at catching passes. He was named to the 1st team All-Region and 1st team All-Metro. He also made the 2nd team All-State for his football skills.
Rico set a new record at Natchez High School for receiving yards. He gained an amazing 3,500 yards during his time there. In his final year, he caught 46 passes for 891 yards and scored seven touchdowns. He also ran with the ball, gaining 442 yards and scoring six touchdowns.
Besides football, Rico was also a talented track and field athlete. He won a state championship in the triple jump, jumping 46 feet, 11 inches. He also played basketball for his high school team.
College Football Career
After high school, Rico Richardson played college football for the Jackson State Tigers. He played for them from 2009 to 2012. During his college career, he played in 43 games. He started 20 of those games, showing how important he was to the team.
While playing for the Tigers, Rico caught 146 passes. He gained a total of 2,722 yards, which is a lot of ground! He also scored 26 touchdowns, helping his team win many games.
Playing in the NFL
Rico Richardson hoped to join the NFL after college. He was not chosen in the 2013 NFL draft, but he still got a chance.
Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans
On May 1, 2013, Rico signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. This was his first step into professional football. However, he was released by the Chiefs later that year, on August 31, 2013.
He then joined the Houston Texans' practice squad on November 13, 2013. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. He signed a future contract with them in December 2013. But he was released by the Texans in May 2014.
Tennessee Titans
Rico signed with the Tennessee Titans on June 13, 2014. He was released from the main team in August but joined their practice squad. On December 18, 2014, Rico made his official NFL debut. This was a big moment for him, playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He was released by the Titans again in September 2015 but rejoined their practice squad. He was brought back to the main team in October 2015. However, he was waived by the Titans in November 2015. He later rejoined their practice squad in December 2015.
Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers
Rico signed with the Arizona Cardinals on June 6, 2016. He was released by them on July 30, 2016.
