Ridley, is a famous villain from the Metroid video game series. He is also known as Geoform 187 and The Cunning God of Death. Ridley is a dragon-like alien from the planet Zebes. He is the main enemy of Samus Aran, the hero of the series.

Ridley became Samus's archenemy after he attacked her home planet and killed her parents. He led a group called the Space Pirates. Even though Samus has defeated Ridley many times, he always comes back. This is because the Space Pirates rebuild him, and he also has a special power to heal himself very quickly.

Ridley first appeared as a helper to Mother Brain, another big villain. Later, in games like Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, he became a robot-dragon called Meta Ridley. In this form, he led the Space Pirates himself. Ridley is very smart and can even speak in some Metroid stories.

He was named after Ridley Scott, who directed the movie Alien in 1979. The creators of Metroid said that Alien was a big inspiration for their game world.

Who is Ridley?

Ridley first appeared in the video game Metroid for the Nintendo Entertainment System. In this game, he and another character named Kraid were important leaders for the Space Pirates. Their job was to protect Mother Brain at her base on Zebes. They were trying to make copies of creatures called Metroids to use as weapons.

How Ridley Changes His Look

Throughout the Metroid series, Ridley has changed his appearance many times.

Early Appearances

In the first Metroid game, Ridley was about the same size as Samus. He looked more like a strange alien, especially in early drawings. These drawings showed him with eight eyes and a small, lamprey-like mouth.

Robot Forms

Later, in the Prime series, Ridley became a cybernetic (part robot, part living creature) version called Meta Ridley. This form had different weapons built into it. A robot copy of Ridley, called Ridley Robot or Mecha Ridley, was the final boss in the game Zero Mission.

Other Forms

In Metroid: Fusion, Ridley appeared as Neo-Ridley (ネオリドリー, Neoridorī). This was actually an X parasite (a type of alien) that copied Ridley's form. The game Metroid: Other M showed Ridley's full life cycle. He started as a small creature called Little Birdie. Then he changed into a reptilian (lizard-like) Mystery Creature. Finally, he changed again into his full-grown dragon form.

Ridley's Other Adventures

Ridley has also appeared in other Nintendo games. You can find him in Nintendo Land and Dead or Alive: Dimensions. He is also a regular character in the Super Smash Bros. fighting game series, and his music is often featured there. Ridley has also been in comics, such as Captain N: The Game Master (from 1990), Nintendo Power, and the Monthly Magazine Z manga.
