Rimbo is a small town located in Norrtälje Municipality, which is part of Stockholm County in Sweden. As of 2020, about 5,223 people live there. Rimbo is situated about 20 kilometers (12 miles) west of Norrtälje, which is the main town of the municipality.
History of Transport
Rimbo became an important place because of its railways. It was a meeting point for different narrow-gauge train lines. These lines connected Rimbo to other towns like Uppsala (starting in 1884), Stockholm (1885), and Hallstavik (1896).
The train line to Stockholm, which was part of the Roslagsbanan network, stopped running in 1981. There are plans to reopen a 14-kilometer (8.7-mile) part of the line to Kårsta. Kårsta is currently the northern end of the Roslagsbanan, but no money has been set aside for this project yet.
