Riparius is a small community called a hamlet in Warren County, New York. It is located in the beautiful Upper Hudson River Valley. Riparius is split between two different towns: Johnsburg and Chester.
What's in a Name?
Riparius was once known as Riverside. However, there were many other places in New York with the same name. To avoid confusion, the state decided to change it. They chose "Riparius" because it's a Latin word that means "Riverside"! It's a clever way to keep the original meaning.

Today, Riparius is the end point for the Upper Hudson River Railroad. This is a special tourist train that starts in North Creek. During the summer, visitors can enjoy a scenic ride to Riparius.
