Upper Hudson River Valley facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Upper Hudson River Valley is a special part of Upstate New York. It's where the Hudson River flows from its beginnings near North River down to Fort Edward. This area is known for its beautiful scenery and important history.

What is the Upper Hudson River Valley?

This valley is the northern part of the famous Hudson River. It stretches from the small town of North River, where the river starts to get bigger, all the way to Fort Edward. At Fort Edward, there's a large waterfall that stops boats from going further upstream.

Where Does the River Flow?

After Fort Edward, boats heading north leave the Hudson River. They move onto the Champlain Canal. This canal is a waterway that connects the Hudson River to Lake Champlain, allowing boats to travel much further north.

Towns and Nature in the Valley

The biggest town in the Upper Hudson River Valley is Glens Falls. It's a lively place with many people. Other towns you can find here include North Creek, Hadley, Lake Luzerne, Corinth, and Hudson Falls.

Mountains and Waterways

The region is surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains. These mountains create many small valleys and glens, making the landscape very pretty. Near Corinth, the Hudson River gets deeper and wider. It then makes a big bend where Interstate 87 crosses close to Glens Falls.
