Hadley (pronounced HAD-lee) is a small town in Saratoga County, New York. It's located in the northern part of the county, west of Glens Falls. The town was named after Hadley, Massachusetts. In 2020, about 1,976 people lived here.

History of Hadley

The first person to settle in the area arrived around 1788. The Town of Hadley was officially created in 1801. It was formed from parts of two other towns: Greenfield and Northumberland.

Later, parts of Hadley were used to form new towns. The Town of Corinth was created from Hadley in 1818. Then, the Town of Day was formed in 1819. These changes gave Hadley its current size and shape.

A big project happened in 1930. The Conklingville Dam was built near the western edge of the town. This dam helped create the Sacandaga Reservoir. It also helped control floods, protecting the area from too much water.

Hadley is home to some important historical sites. The Hadley Mountain Fire Observation Station and the Hadley Parabolic Bridge are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized as special places that are worth preserving.

Geography and Nature

Hadley is a beautiful place, covering about 41 square miles (106 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

The town is located inside the Adirondack Park. This is a very large park that protects a lot of natural land in New York. The northern and eastern edges of Hadley touch the border of Warren County.

A part of the Great Sacandaga Lake is found near the western side of Hadley. The Sacandaga River flows right through the middle of the town. It then joins the mighty Hudson River near Hadley's eastern border.

New York State Route 9N is an important road that goes through the southeastern part of Hadley.
