History of Day
Early Settlements and Town Creation
People first started settling in the area around 1797. This was a time when many new communities were forming in New York.
The town of Day was officially created in 1819. It was formed from parts of two other towns: Edinburg and Hadley. When it was first created, the town had a different name: "Concord."
The Great Sacandaga Lake
A big change happened in Day in 1930. The Conklingville dam was built, which created the Sacandaga Reservoir. This reservoir is now known as Great Sacandaga Lake.
When the lake was formed, some parts of the town were flooded. To save them, some historic buildings were carefully moved to higher ground. Other buildings ended up under the water and are now part of the lake's history.
Historic Places
One important historical building is the David Rayfiel House. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. This means it's recognized as a special place worth preserving.
