The Rivière aux Cèdres (which means Cedar River in English) is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Henri River. From there, its waters travel into the rivière du Chêne. Finally, they reach the mighty St. Lawrence River.

This river flows through several towns. These include Saint-Agapit, Saint-Flavien, Dosquet, Saint-Janvier-de-Joly, and Val-Alain. All these towns are located in the Lotbinière Regional County Municipality. This area is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region in Quebec.

Where Does the Rivière aux Cèdres Flow?

The Rivière aux Cèdres is part of a larger network of rivers. These rivers are called watersheds. They all collect water and send it towards a main river.

Here are the main rivers near the Rivière aux Cèdres:

The River's Starting Point

The Rivière aux Cèdres begins in a marshy area. This area is where the towns of Saint-Agapit, Dosquet, and Saint-Flavien meet.

This starting point is about 8.0 kilometres (5.0 mi) southwest of Saint-Agapit village. It's also about 5.5 kilometres (3.4 mi) west of Saint-Flavien village. And it's 5.0 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of Dosquet village.

The River's Journey

From its source, the Rivière aux Cèdres flows for about 20.9 kilometres (13.0 mi). As it flows, it drops about 67 metres (220 ft) in elevation.

Here's how its journey unfolds:

  • It starts by flowing 100 metres (330 ft) southwest through a marsh in Saint-Agapit.
  • Then, it travels 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) southwest in Saint-Flavien. It crosses another marsh area here. It also meets the "Right branch" of the Rivière aux Cèdres.
  • Next, it flows 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) west until it reaches Route 271.
  • It continues 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) west to the border of Dosquet.
  • After that, it flows 1.1 kilometres (0.68 mi) west to the border of Saint-Janvier-de-Joly.
  • It then goes 1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) west to a country road.

  • It continues 2.8 kilometres (1.7 mi) west to Highway 20.
  • Finally, it flows 6.1 kilometres (3.8 mi) west until it joins another river.

Where the River Ends

The Rivière aux Cèdres flows into the Henri River. This happens in the town of Val-Alain.

This meeting point is after the rivière aux Frênes joins the Henri River. It's also before the Henri River itself joins the rivière du Chêne.
