The Rivière aux Glaises (which means Clay River in English) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the St. Lawrence River from its south side. This river runs through parts of Bécancour and Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets. Both of these places are in the Bécancour Regional County Municipality, which is in the Centre-du-Québec region.

What's in a Name?

The name Rivière aux Glaises means "Clay River." It got this name because the bottom of the river, called its bed, is made of a lot of clay. People have used this name for a long time. It even showed up on a map of Nicolet County back in 1938.

Where Does the River Flow?

The Rivière aux Glaises is part of a larger water system. Rivers and streams are often grouped by their "watershed." A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a specific river or lake.
