Robert Michael Archibald (born March 29, 1980 – died January 23, 2020) was a professional basketball player from Scotland. He was very tall, standing 6 feet 11 inches. He played as a power forward or center.
Archibald went to the University of Illinois. After college, the Memphis Grizzlies picked him in the 2002 NBA draft. He was the 32nd player chosen overall.

Robert Archibald's Basketball Journey
Archibald finished high school at Lafayette High School in 1998. A famous baseball player, Ryan Howard, also went to school there. Robert's father, Bobby Archibald, was also a basketball player in Scotland. He played for the Scottish and Great Britain national teams.
Playing in the NBA
The Memphis Grizzlies signed Archibald to a two-year contract after drafting him. He played only 12 games with them in his first season.
Later, Archibald was traded to the Phoenix Suns. This trade also involved Brevin Knight and Cezary Trybański. The Suns sent Bo Outlaw and Jake Tsakalidis to the Grizzlies.
On December 26, 2003, Archibald was traded again, this time to the Orlando Magic. Just one week later, he was traded for a third time in the same season! He went to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Mengke Bateer and Remon van de Hare. He played 30 games for the Raptors.
Robert Archibald's last NBA game was on April 9, 2004. His team, the Raptors, lost to the Detroit Pistons 66-74. In that game, he got 4 rebounds but did not score any points.
During his NBA career, Archibald averaged 1.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. He is special because he is the only Scotsman ever to play in the NBA.
Playing in Europe
After his time in the NBA, Archibald played four seasons in the Euroleague. This is a top basketball league in Europe. He played for teams like Scavolini Pesaro, Joventut Badalona, and Unicaja Málaga.
In July 2011, he signed a one-year contract with CAI Zaragoza.
Archibald stopped playing basketball after the 2012 Summer Olympics. He played for the Great Britain team in those Olympics.
