Robert Covington (born December 14, 1990) is an American professional basketball player. He last played for the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Tennessee State Tigers. In 2018, he was chosen for the NBA All-Defensive First Team.

High School Basketball Star
Robert Covington went to Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois. In his final year (2008–09), he was amazing on the court. He scored about 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and blocked seven shots per game. He was named the best player in his conference. He also helped his team win the West Suburban Championship.
College Career Highlights

Freshman Year Success
As a freshman, Robert was named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team. This means he was one of the best new players in the conference. He played in 32 games, starting 28 of them. He averaged 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Season Achievements
In his second year, Robert had eight games where he scored double-digits in both points and rebounds. He led his team in rebounds (7.5 per game) and shooting percentage. He was also the best in the OVC for three-point shooting, making 46% of his shots. He earned second-team All-OVC honors.
Junior Year Excellence
During his junior year, Robert was named first-team All-OVC. He was also chosen as the OVC co-MVP by CollegeInsider.com. He scored 17.8 points and grabbed 7.9 rebounds per game. By the end of this season, he had scored 1,358 points and had 693 rebounds in his college career.
Senior Year and Career Records
In his senior year, Robert was again named second-team All-OVC. Even though he missed ten games due to an injury, he still averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He finished his college career with 1,749 points and 876 rebounds. These numbers placed him among the top players in Tennessee State's history.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting with the Houston Rockets (2013–2014)
After college, Robert Covington was not chosen in the 2013 NBA draft. However, he joined the Houston Rockets for their Summer League games. He signed a contract with the Rockets in July 2013. He spent most of the 2013–14 season playing in the NBA Development League for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He only played in seven NBA games that season.
In the G League, Robert was a standout player. He played in the 2014 NBA D-League All-Star Game. He scored an amazing 33 points in that game, earning the MVP award. He was also named the NBA D-League Rookie of the Year. He averaged 23.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game for the Vipers. The Rockets later waived him in October 2014.
Joining the Philadelphia 76ers (2014–2018)
On November 15, 2014, Robert signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. He quickly showed his skills. On December 3, he scored 17 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Just two nights later, he scored 21 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The very next day, he set a new career high with 25 points against the Detroit Pistons.
Key Moments with the 76ers
In the 2015–16 season, Robert became known for his steals. He led the NBA with 3.6 steals per game in December. He even had six or more steals in three games in a row. On November 27, he scored a career-high 28 points and had eight steals against the Houston Rockets. On December 1, he helped the 76ers win a game, ending a long losing streak. He also set a new career high in scoring with 30 points against the New York Knicks on April 8.

In the 2016–17 season, Robert continued to play well. On December 14, 2016, he scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He made two crucial three-pointers in the final seconds to help the 76ers win against the Portland Trail Blazers on January 20, 2017. He was later sidelined due to a knee injury in March 2017.
Robert started the 2017–18 season strong, scoring 29 points in the first game. On November 13, he scored a season-high 31 points against the Los Angeles Clippers. In May 2018, he was recognized for his excellent defense. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.
Moving to the Minnesota Timberwolves (2018–2020)
On November 12, 2018, Robert was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played his first game for them two days later, scoring 13 points. However, he suffered a knee injury on December 31. This injury kept him out for the rest of the season. He had surgery on his knee in April 2019.
Return to Houston (2020)
On February 5, 2020, Robert was traded back to the Houston Rockets in a big trade involving four teams. He played his first game back with the Rockets the next day, scoring 14 points. On February 29, he had a great game against the Boston Celtics, scoring 16 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, and blocking 3 shots.
Playing for the Portland Trail Blazers (2020–2022)
On November 22, 2020, Robert was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He played for them for about two seasons.
Time with the Los Angeles Clippers (2022–2023)
On February 4, 2022, Robert was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. On April 1, he had an amazing game, scoring a career-high 43 points against the Milwaukee Bucks. He also made 11 three-pointers in that game, which set a new record for the Clippers team. In May, he signed a new contract with the Clippers.
Back to Philadelphia (2023–2024)
On November 1, 2023, Robert was traded back to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a large trade with the Clippers. This was his second time playing for the 76ers.
Personal Life
Robert Covington is the son of Dennis and Teresa Bryant. He has a daughter named Harmony Faye, who was born on March 8, 2022.
