Robert's Music Journey
Early Life and First Steps in Music
Robert Dahlqvist was born in Visby, Sweden. He grew up in Uddevalla, Sweden. He received his first guitar when he was ten years old.
He went to music school for a short time. However, he left after only a month. He was frustrated because he was not allowed to play songs by the band Kiss. When he was fifteen, his mother gave him an electric guitar. This made him focus more seriously on playing. Soon, Robert started playing in different bands. He also worked at a bar where he met members of the Swedish rock band the Hellacopters.
Joining The Hellacopters
The Hellacopters needed a new guitarist in 1999. Their original guitarist, Dregen, had left. Robert heard about this and asked for an audition. He then joined the band full-time.
His first full album with The Hellacopters was High Visibility in 2000. Around this time, the band gave him the nickname "Strings." While in The Hellacopters, Robert also played with other bands. He appeared on albums by The Solution and Diamond Dogs. These bands also featured his Hellacopters bandmates.
With The Hellacopters, Robert recorded four studio albums. He also worked on many other music releases. In October 2007, The Hellacopters announced they would break up. They released their last album Head Off and went on a farewell tour. The band reunited in 2016, but Robert was not part of that reunion.
Other Music Projects
Robert first started the band Thunder Express in 2004. This was a side project while he was still with The Hellacopters. They released two albums: We Play for Pleasure in 2004 and Republic Disgrace in 2007.
Later, the band started singing in Swedish. They changed their name to Dundertåget, which means "Thunder Express" in Swedish. They released two more albums: Skaffa ny Frisyr in 2008 and Dom Feta Åren är Förbi in 2010. The band then broke up in 2011.
Robert's next project was called Strängen. This is the Swedish word for his nickname "Strings." He released a song called "Rocken är inte död!" (which means "Rock Isn't Dead!"). He also announced a new album. This would have been his first full album in five years. His manager said the album was almost finished when Robert passed away in February 2017. Some of the last recording sessions happened just a few days before.
Passing Away
Robert Dahlqvist passed away on February 1, 2017, at the age of 40. The company that distributed music for The Hellacopters stated that Robert died accidentally at home. At the time of his passing, he had several concerts and appearances planned for the coming weeks.
