Robert Frank List, born on September 1, 1936, is an American lawyer and politician. He is a member of the Republican Party. He served as the 24th Governor of Nevada from 1979 to 1983. Before that, he was the Nevada Attorney General from 1971 to 1979. He also worked as the Carson City District Attorney from 1967 to 1971.
Today, Mr. List practices law in Las Vegas. He works with the law firm Kolesar & Leatham, Chtd. He was the last Governor from outside Clark County until Jim Gibbons was elected. After his time as Governor, he supported the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. He lost his re-election bid in 1982 to Richard Bryan. He was the last Nevada Governor to lose re-election until Steve Sisolak lost in 2022.

Robert Frank List was born in Exeter, California. His parents were Frank and Alice List.
Education and Legal Career
Mr. List earned his law degrees from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1962. He is allowed to practice law in Nevada, Washington D.C., and at the U.S. Supreme Court. He is part of several legal groups. These include the American Bar Association and the Nevada State Bar Association.
Current Work
On December 1, 2010, Mr. List became a senior partner at Kolesar & Leatham, Chtd. This is a business law firm in Las Vegas. He is also the chief executive officer of The Robert List Company. This company works to influence government decisions.
Public Service Roles
Mr. List served as the District Attorney for Carson City, Nevada, from 1966 to 1970. He then became the Attorney General of Nevada from 1970 to 1978. In 1978, he was elected Governor. He held this position until 1983. He also led the Western Governors Association. He chaired the Conference of Western Attorneys General.
Personal Life
Robert List is married to Mary Ann (Polly) Minor List. They have two children together, Robert and Elizabeth. He also has three other adult children: Suzanne, Hank, and Michelle.
