Robert Nelson "Bob" Leatherwood (June 1, 1844 – April 3, 1920) was an American businessman and politician. He served several times in the local government of Arizona Territory and was also the Mayor of Tucson, Arizona.

Who Was Bob Leatherwood?
Early Life and Service
Robert "Bob" Leatherwood was born in June 1844, near Hayesville, North Carolina. When he was a young man, the American Civil War began. He joined the Confederate States Army and served during the war. Even after the war ended, he sometimes wore his old uniform for special events. People described him as a brave and determined person, even though he was not very tall. He was about 5 feet 5 inches (1.65 m) tall and weighed around 130 pounds (59 kg). He got married and had one son.
Moving to Arizona
In 1869, Bob Leatherwood moved to Tucson, Arizona. He lived there for the rest of his life. He was a businessman who owned a livery stable, which was a place where horses were kept and rented out. He also worked in mining in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Besides his mining work, he built a ranch in the Santa Catalina Mountains.
Bob Leatherwood's Public Service
Serving Tucson City Council
Bob Leatherwood was very involved in his community. From 1874 to 1879, he was a member of the Tucson City Council. This group helped manage the city. He also served as a school trustee, helping to oversee the local schools.
Mayor of Tucson
In 1880, Bob Leatherwood was elected Mayor of Tucson. A big event happened during his time as mayor: the Southern Pacific Railroad reached Tucson on March 20, 1880. This was a huge deal for the city! Mayor Leatherwood helped organize a big celebration for the railroad's arrival.
Working in the Legislature
Bob Leatherwood also served in the Arizona Territorial Legislature. This was the local government for the Arizona Territory before it became a state.
- In 1885, he represented Pima County, Arizona in the Council, which was like the upper house of the legislature.
- Two years later, in 1887, he served in the lower house of the legislature.
- His last time in the legislature was during the 1893 session.
Pima County Sheriff
By the late 1880s, Leatherwood was working as an assistant sheriff. On November 6, 1894, he was elected Sheriff of Pima County. He served as sheriff from 1895 to 1898. After his time as sheriff, he stopped working in public office.
Later Life and Legacy
Bob Leatherwood passed away on April 3, 1920. He was buried in Moss Memorial Graveyard in Cherokee County, North Carolina.
