Sir Robert Romney Kane (born October 28, 1842 – died March 26, 1902) was an important Irish barrister and writer. A barrister is a type of lawyer who argues cases in court. Robert Kane also wrote books about Irish history and law.

Robert Kane's Life Story
Robert Kane was born on October 28, 1842, in a place called Gracefield, near Blackrock, Dublin, Ireland. He was the oldest son of Sir Robert Kane, a famous chemist. His mother, Katherine, was also a writer. She wrote a book about Irish plants called Irish Flora.
Early Education and Law Studies
Young Robert went to a private school in Dublin. After that, he studied at Queen's College, Cork. He earned his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in 1862. Later, in 1882, he received an honorary law degree (LL.D.).
Robert then moved to London to study law. He joined a famous legal group called Lincoln's Inn. In 1865, he earned his law degree (LL.B.) with high honors from London University.
Becoming a Barrister and Judge
In 1865, Robert Kane became a barrister in Ireland. He worked in the Munster area and became very good at his job. In 1873, he was chosen to be a professor at the King's Inns. There, he taught about fairness in law, legal rules, and international law.
Robert became an expert on Irish land laws. Because of this, he was made a legal assistant commissioner in 1881. This was part of the new Land Law Act that helped people who rented land. He held this important job until 1892. Then, he became a county court judge for several counties: Kildare, Carlow, Wexford, and Wicklow.
Later Life and Achievements
After some years of not being well, Robert Kane passed away on March 26, 1902, in Dublin. He was a member of the Royal Irish Academy, which is a group for important scholars. He was also a fellow of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, a group that studies old things. For many years, he helped lead the Royal Dublin Society and was a trustee for the National Library of Ireland.
Robert Kane's Writings
Robert Kane worked with another lawyer, Francis Nolan, to write a book. It was about the laws for landlords and tenants in Ireland, published in 1892. He also helped publish a book called A Short History of the Irish People in 1887. This book was based on lectures by his friend, Alexander George Richey.
His Family
On December 29, 1875, Robert Kane married Ellinor Louisa Coffey. They had two sons and three daughters. Sadly, their elder son, Harold, passed away while serving in the military during the Second Boer war in 1901. Their second son also died while serving in the military during the final weeks of the First World War.
