Early Life and Dreams
Robson Golightly Green was born on 18 December 1964 in Hexham, England. He grew up in a small mining village called Dudley. His dad was a miner, and his mum was a cleaner and shopkeeper. He was named Robson after his grandmother's family name. His middle name, Golightly, was his other grandmother's family name.
Robson went to Dudley Middle Comprehensive School. He was inspired by jets flying overhead and wanted to join the Royal Air Force. At 16, he joined the Air Training Corps. However, after two weeks at an officer training camp, he decided it wasn't for him.
He also learned to play the guitar and started his first band, Solid State, in 1982. He spent one night a week at the Backworth Drama Centre. He acted in many school plays and productions there.
Starting His Career
After school, at age 16, Robson got five O-levels. He then worked as a draughtsman at Swan Hunter's shipyard. He even tried professional boxing training for a play where he played a boxer. After two years at the shipyard, Robson decided he wanted to be an actor.

Singing Success

The song was number one for seven weeks in the UK! It sold over 1.8 million copies, making it the best-selling single of that year. Robson and Jerome won awards for best single and best album in 1996. They went on to have two more number one singles and two number one albums, all remakes of classic songs.
