A Glimpse into Rocha's Past
Puerto Rico used to be controlled by Spain. After a war called the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States in 1898. This made Puerto Rico a territory of the U.S.
In 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 902 people lived in Rocha barrio at that time. Over the years, the number of people living in Rocha has grown.

When the Río Culebrinas Flooded
In May 2019, Rocha barrio experienced heavy rains. This caused the Río Culebrinas (Culebrinas River) to overflow its banks. The flooding affected many areas in Moca and other towns.
The flood waters covered roads and caused trees to fall. There were also some landslides, which are when dirt and rocks slide down hills. These events made it difficult for people to travel in the area.
