Roche à Perdrix is a cool mountain found in the Alberta's Rockies in Canada. It stands tall at 2,135 meters (about 7,000 feet) above sea level.

This mountain is located just south of Highway 16. It sits right on the eastern edge of Jasper National Park. Roche à Perdrix is one of the first big mountains you see when you enter the park from the east. It's part of the Fiddle Range, which is one of the mountain chains on the eastern side of the Canadian Rockies.

In French, perdrix means partridge, which is a type of bird. Roche means rock. So, "Roche à Perdrix" means "Partridge Rock." The mountain got its name because some of its rock layers look like the tail feathers of a partridge! Reverend George Grant gave the mountain this unique name way back in 1872.

Mountain Weather

The weather at Roche à Perdrix is known as a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold, snowy winters and mild, comfortable summers.

Winter Conditions

During winter, temperatures can drop below -20 °C (which is -4 °F). With the wind chill, it can feel even colder, sometimes below -30 °C (-22 °F)! So, it gets super chilly.

Best Time to Visit

If you want to climb or explore the mountain, the best months are from June through September. The weather is much nicer then, with milder temperatures. Any rain or melting snow from the mountain flows into the Athabasca River.
