Rockland Key is a beautiful island located in the lower part of the Florida Keys. It's about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) east of the famous city of Key West. This sunny island is part of the amazing chain of islands that stretch out into the ocean from the southern tip of Florida.

Exploring Rockland Key

Rockland Key is a small but important part of the Florida Keys. These islands are known for their warm weather, clear waters, and unique wildlife. Rockland Key sits in the Gulf of Mexico and is surrounded by the waters of the Florida Straits. It's a great example of the many islands that make up this special part of the United States.

Where is Rockland Key?

You can find Rockland Key in Monroe County, which is in the state of Florida. It's considered one of the "lower" Florida Keys because it's closer to the very end of the island chain, near Key West. Just imagine a long string of islands, and Rockland Key is one of the last ones you'd reach.

Traveling Through Rockland Key

One of the most famous roads in Florida, U.S. Route 1, also known as the Overseas Highway, goes right across the edge of Rockland Key. This highway is super cool because it connects many of the Florida Keys islands with bridges over the water. On Rockland Key, you'll find the highway between mile markers 8 and 9.5. This section of the road is located between two other islands: Boca Chica Key and Big Coppitt Key.

If you're driving on the Overseas Highway, you might notice another island directly across from Rockland Key. This island is called East Rockland Key. It's interesting how the highway connects these different land areas, making it easy to explore the beautiful Florida Keys.
