Roderick Bernet Allen, born on October 5, 1959, is a former professional baseball player from the United States. He played as an outfielder for several teams, including the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, and Cleveland Indians in Major League Baseball (MLB). He also played for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
After his playing career, Rod Allen became a well-known baseball analyst. He currently works as a game analyst for the Miami Marlins on Fan Duel Sports Network Florida. Before this, he was an analyst for the Detroit Tigers and also worked on Fox Saturday Baseball. He also spent time as an analyst for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Baseball Career Highlights
Playing Baseball
Rod Allen was first chosen by the Chicago White Sox in the 1977 Major League Baseball draft. He made his big league debut with the Seattle Mariners on April 7, 1983, when he was 23 years old.
In 1984, he played 15 games for the Detroit Tigers as an outfielder and designated hitter. He hit well, with a .296 batting average. However, he was not part of the team during their postseason run when they won the World Series. He later had another short time playing in the majors with the Cleveland Indians in 1988.
Allen finished his playing career in Japan with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. He played there for three years, from 1989 to 1991. During his time in Japan, he hit two home runs in the 1991 Japan Series. He also set a Japanese regular season record by hitting four home runs in four straight times at bat.
Coaching Baseball Players
Before becoming a broadcaster, Rod Allen worked as a hitting instructor. He spent four seasons, from 1992 to 1995, with the Florida Marlins organization.
In 1994 and 1995, he was the hitting coach for the Kane County Cougars. This team was a Single-A affiliate of the Marlins in the Midwest League. He helped coach several notable players, including Mike Redmond, Kevin Millar, and Luis Castillo.

Arizona Diamondbacks Analyst
From 1998 to 2002, Allen worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was a television analyst for Fox Sports Arizona and a radio analyst for KTAR.
He was the color commentator for the Diamondbacks' radio broadcasts during the 2001 postseason. This included their exciting World Series victory against the New York Yankees. Later, former major league player Mark Grace took over his role as the Diamondbacks' television analyst.
Detroit Tigers Analyst
Rod Allen became a regular color commentator for the Detroit Tigers on Fox Sports Detroit. He often worked alongside play-by-play announcer Mario Impemba.
Allen won Michigan Emmys in both 2006 and 2007. These awards were for his excellent analysis of Detroit Tigers baseball games. He is also a long-time member of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. This group was started in 1948 by Tigers broadcaster Ty Tyson.
Allen and Impemba had been broadcasting Tigers games together for 16 years. In September 2018, their contracts were not renewed for future seasons.
Fox Saturday Baseball
Besides his work for the Diamondbacks and Tigers, Allen also provided color commentary for Fox Saturday Baseball. This included games featuring the Tigers until 2018.
Miami Marlins Analyst
In March 2022, it was announced that Rod Allen would join Bally Sports Florida. He now works as an analyst for Miami Marlins telecasts.
Family Life
Rod Allen is married to Adrian, and they have four children: Rhonda, Rod Jr., Andrew, and Rachel. The Allen family lives in the Phoenix, Arizona area.
His son, Rod Jr., was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2004 after playing college baseball at Arizona State University. He played for the Staten Island Yankees in 2004 and the Class A Winston-Salem Warthogs in 2006 and 2007. His most recent professional baseball experience was in 2011.
Another son, Andrew, was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2007. He attended Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Arizona.
