Rodney Bennett (born March 24, 1935, died January 3, 2017) was a British television director. He worked for BBC Radio and directed many TV shows. He also made programs for ITV.
Early Life and School Days
Rodney Bennett was born in Chagford, Devon, England. He grew up in a town called Totnes. He went to St John's College, Cambridge to study psychology. Later, he earned a special degree called a master's degree from University College London.
Directing TV Shows
Rodney Bennett started his career at the BBC working in radio. He then moved to television when BBC2 began. He directed episodes of the popular show Z-Cars.
He also directed three stories for the famous science fiction show Doctor Who:
- The Ark in Space (1975)
- The Sontaran Experiment (1975)
- The Masque of Mandragora (1976)
In 1980, he directed a BBC Shakespeare play. It was Hamlet, starring Derek Jacobi and Patrick Stewart. For ITV, he directed the comedy-drama Anything More Would Be Greedy in 1989. He also directed episodes of the well-loved series The Darling Buds of May.
