Roessleville's History
Roessleville was once part of a large area called the Albany Pine Bush. This area was covered in special pine trees and stretched between Albany and Schenectady. Later, in the 1940s, this land was used for farms. More recently, it has grown into a busy suburb with many homes.
How Roessleville Got Its Name
Roessleville is named after a man named Theophilus Roessle. He was an immigrant from Germany. Mr. Roessle built one of the most beautiful mansions in the Albany area right here. What is now Elmhurst Avenue used to be his private, gated driveway.
Famous People from Roessleville
Two well-known people who lived in Roessleville were Josiah and Elizabeth Stanford. They were the parents of Leland Stanford. Leland Stanford later became a very important person, serving as the Governor of California. His family moved to Roessleville in 1840. They owned a large property called Elm Grove Farm and a hotel.
