Just 17 days later, he scored a goal in his second reserve game. This game was against Crystal Palace. Rolando also traveled with the Newcastle team for a game against Fulham. He did not play in that match, which Newcastle lost 1–0.
On 1 April 2014, Aarons signed an official contract to play professionally for Newcastle United.
Playing in the 2014–15 Season
Rolando Aarons had a great start before the 2014–15 season. He scored one goal and helped set up another in a tournament called the 2014 Schalke 04 Cup. This was against the German team Schalke.
Soon after, he was given the number 16 jersey. On 17 August 2014, he played his first Premier League game. He came on as a substitute in the last 16 minutes of a 2–0 loss to Manchester City.
He scored his first goal for the main team on 30 August. This was in a 3–3 draw against Crystal Palace. He also helped Mike Williamson score Newcastle's third goal in the same game. His play was described as "thrillingly incisive" by The Guardian.
Later, Rolando got a hamstring injury while playing for the England U20 team. Scans showed it would take about six weeks to heal. On 29 October, he returned from his injury. He scored his second goal for Newcastle in the League Cup. This goal helped Newcastle win 2–0 against Manchester City. In early November, his hamstring injury came back, keeping him out for another month.
