Roman Bürki (born November 14, 1990) is a professional footballer from Switzerland. He plays as a goalkeeper for the Major League Soccer team St. Louis City SC. He also played for the Swiss national team from 2014 to 2018.

Club Career
Playing in Switzerland
Roman Bürki started his football journey in 2007 with the reserve team of BSC Young Boys. In 2009, he moved to FC Thun. Six months later, he joined FC Schaffhausen.
In the summer of 2010, he returned to BSC Young Boys. After another six months, he transferred to Grasshopper Club Zürich. He began as a backup goalkeeper there. Soon, he became the main goalkeeper for the team. He played for Grasshoppers on loan until 2013. Then, the club officially bought him.
Time at SC Freiburg
On May 24, 2014, Roman Bürki signed a contract with SC Freiburg in Germany. He became their top goalkeeper for the 2014–15 Bundesliga season. He played in all 34 games that season. Even with his efforts, the team was moved down to a lower league.
Playing for Borussia Dortmund
On June 14, 2015, Bürki joined Borussia Dortmund, a big club in Germany. He played his first official game for them on August 15, 2015. Dortmund won that match 4-0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In his first season, he kept the opposing team from scoring in 12 league games. He played in 33 matches overall. During the 2016–17 season, he played 27 league games. He managed to keep nine clean sheets.
In the 2017–18 season, Bürki made history. He was the first goalkeeper to keep five clean sheets in the first five Bundesliga games. This means no goals were scored against his team in those matches.
Moving to St. Louis City SC
On March 16, 2022, Roman Bürki agreed to join St. Louis City SC. This team was new to Major League Soccer (MLS) and started playing in 2023. He was the highest-paid goalkeeper in the league at that time.
In 2022, Bürki played four games for St. Louis City 2. This was the reserve team for St. Louis City SC. Many future players for the main team also played there.
On February 20, 2023, Bürki was chosen as the captain of St. Louis City SC. In November 2023, he was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. He continues to play for St. Louis City SC.
International Career
Roman Bürki played for the Switzerland U-21 team. He was part of the team in the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
In 2014, Bürki was first called up to the main Swiss national team. He was also part of the squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. On November 18, 2014, he played his first game for the national team. It was a friendly match against Poland.
He was also in the squad for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. However, he did not play in any matches during that competition. His team was knocked out after losing to Poland in a penalty shootout.
Bürki was also chosen for Switzerland's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In 2018, he decided to stop playing for the Swiss national team. He wanted to focus completely on his club team, Borussia Dortmund.

Roman Bürki has an older brother named Marco Bürki. Marco is also a professional footballer. He plays as a defender for FC Thun.
