Early Beginnings of Romans
The land where Romans now stands became the property of Cluny Abbey in the year 917. This happened when Ingelberge, the wife of William I, Duke of Aquitaine, gave it to the Abbey. William I was the person who founded Cluny Abbey.

On March 4, 1718, the Lord of Romans, Claude de Lyobard de Brion, sold the land. It was bought by Claude César Ferrary, who was a squire and a King's Counsellor.
Later, in December 1763, Romans was given a special new title. It became an earldom called Romans-Ferrari. This happened thanks to Etienne-Lambert, who was Claude César's son. The last earl of Romans-Ferrari was Charles de Romans-Ferrari. He was born in Romans on December 16, 1861, and passed away in 1912.
