History of Rome
Rome was first planned and built in 1846. A person named William Scott helped create the village. Later, in 1866, Rome grew bigger. It added land on the other side of the Skunk River. This was done so the village could connect to a railway line. The railway was called the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. This connection was important for travel and trade.

Rome is a small village that covers about 0.32 square kilometers (0.13 square miles) of land. It has no water area. The village is located on the northwest bank of the Skunk River. This river is a natural feature of the area.
