Ronald Antonio Curry (born May 28, 1979) is an American football coach. He used to be a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Currently, he is the quarterbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills. Before that, he was an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers.

Curry played college football as a quarterback at North Carolina. The Oakland Raiders picked him in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL draft. He played for eight seasons in the NFL. He was with the Raiders, Detroit Lions, and St. Louis Rams.

Early Life and High School Sports

Ronald Curry was born in Hampton, Virginia. He went to Hampton High School. There, he was an amazing athlete in both basketball and football. In 1997, he won the Dial Award. This award goes to the best national high school scholar-athlete.

Curry also won the McDonald's Slam Dunk contest. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the McDonald's All-American game. He was a top player in both sports.

Ronald Curry broke many Virginia high school football records. Many people think he is one of the best high school athletes ever from Virginia. He led his school to win three state football titles in a row from 1995 to 1997. He also led them to a basketball state title in 1998.

The 1996 Hampton High School football team was undefeated, winning all 14 games. They scored 768 points and only allowed 83 points. This team is often called the best in Virginia history. The 1997 team also went 14–0. Curry was also great as a defensive back and kick returner.

Michael Vick, another famous football player, was in the same high school district. Vick said he felt pressure to compete against Ronald Curry. Many experts rated Curry as a higher prospect for college football.

College Career Highlights

At North Carolina, Curry set many records. He had the most career passing yards and total yards. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice in post-season bowl games. These were the 1998 Las Vegas Bowl and the 2001 Peach Bowl.

He also played basketball for two years. He played alongside Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers. During his time in college, Curry played for three different offensive coordinators.

Playing for the Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders picked Curry in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL draft. He was the 235th player chosen overall. They drafted him as a quarterback.

Curry played his first regular season game on November 3, 2002. This was against the San Francisco 49ers. In the 2003 season, he played in all 16 games. He started two games and caught five passes for 31 yards.

In 2004, Curry became a key receiver. He caught 50 passes for 679 yards. He had to stop playing due to an Achilles tendon injury. Before his injury, he had a game with 10 catches against the Colts. He also had a 100-yard receiving game against Denver. The next week, he had 141 yards against Kansas City.

Curry returned in 2006 after recovering from his injury. He led the Raiders in receiving yards and catches that year. He also scored one touchdown. In 2007, he signed a new five-year contract. He started the 2007 season with 10 catches, 133 yards, and one touchdown.

In May 2008, Curry had another foot surgery. He missed some team practices. In the first game of the 2008 season, he caught a 4-yard touchdown. The Raiders released him on February 18, 2009.

Time with Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams

The Detroit Lions signed Curry on April 16, 2009. Later that year, on July 22, 2009, the St. Louis Rams traded for him. However, the Rams released Curry on September 5, 2009.

Coaching Career

High School Coaching

Curry started his coaching career at Mooresville Christian Academy. This was in Mooresville, NC. From 2010 to 2012, he was the athletic director and head football coach.

San Francisco 49ers Assistant

From 2014 to 2015, Curry worked for the San Francisco 49ers. He was an offensive assistant coach. He left the team after the 2015 season due to coaching changes.

New Orleans Saints Roles

On February 3, 2016, the New Orleans Saints hired Curry. He joined as an offensive assistant under head coach Sean Payton.

In 2018, Curry was promoted. He became the wide receivers coach for the Saints.

On March 4, 2021, he was promoted again. He became the quarterbacks coach. On February 23, 2022, Curry also became the passing game coordinator.

Buffalo Bills Quarterbacks Coach

On February 7, 2024, Curry was named the quarterbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills. He works under head coach Sean McDermott.

Personal Life

Ronald Curry was raised by his grandparents. Later, he and his cousin Almondo Curry were cared for by Lillian Crawford. She was the great-grandmother of their good friend Kenneth Crawford. Ronald and Almondo stayed very close to their grandmother until she passed away in October 2000.

Curry met Stacie Jones when they were both students at UNC. They got engaged in March 2001. They married after he moved to Oakland to play for the Raiders. In July 2004, they had their first child, a daughter named Raley Camille. Their second daughter, Emery Mattie, was born four years later. On February 23, 2010, they had their first son, Carter Wallace Curry.
