Ronald Edmund Dupree Jr. (born January 26, 1981) is an American former professional basketball player. He played for six seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also spent many seasons in the NBA Development League (now called the G League). Ronald also played basketball in Europe and Argentina. After he stopped playing, Dupree became a college basketball assistant coach. Today, he works as a scout for the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team.

Ronald Dupree's Basketball Journey

Ronald Dupree had a long and exciting career in basketball. He played at a high level in college and then became a professional player. After his playing days, he continued to work in basketball as a coach and a scout.

College Days at LSU

Ronald Dupree played college basketball at Louisiana State University (LSU). He played under Coach John Brady. In his first year, he helped the Tigers reach the "Sweet Sixteen" round of the college tournament in 2000. He averaged almost 5 points and 3 rebounds per game that season.

Dupree was a star player for LSU. He was named to the All-SEC Second Team three times. This award recognizes the best players in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). In his second year, he led the entire SEC in scoring, with 17.3 points per game. He was also second in the SEC for rebounds, grabbing 8.8 per game.

For his last three years at LSU, he was always among the top rebounders in the SEC. He also ranked high in scoring during those years. When he finished his college career, Ronald Dupree was one of LSU's top scorers and rebounders of all time.

Playing Pro Basketball

After college, Ronald Dupree was not chosen in the 2003 NBA draft. But he still made it to the NBA! He signed with the Chicago Bulls during the 2003–04 season. This was his rookie year in the league.

Starting in the NBA

After his first season with the Bulls, Dupree signed with the Detroit Pistons. He didn't play much for the Pistons at first. Later, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves before the 2005–06 season. He then rejoined the Pistons in 2006. In 2007, the Pistons let him go to make room for other players.

On April 3, 2008, Ronald signed a short contract with the Seattle SuperSonics. He was the very last player to sign with the Sonics before they moved and became the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Playing in the D-League and Overseas

Ronald Dupree also played many seasons in the NBA Development League (now called the G League). He started the 2008–2009 season with the Tulsa 66ers. During that season, he was traded to the Utah Flash. He helped the Utah Flash reach the D-League finals!

In 2009, he tried out for the Utah Jazz NBA team but did not make their final roster. He later signed with the Toronto Raptors in 2010 but was released and then re-signed briefly before being waived again in 2011.

Dupree also played basketball outside the United States. In 2012, he signed with a team in Argentina called Regatas Corrientes. Then, he played for an Italian team named Andrea Costa Imola Basket. He even tried out for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2012 but didn't make their team.

In 2013, he played for two more D-League teams: the Los Angeles D-Fenders and the Reno Bighorns. Later that year, he signed a two-year deal to play for Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel.

On September 10, 2014, Ronald Dupree announced that he was retiring from playing basketball. He then became a student assistant coach for the LSU men's basketball team, where he had played college ball.

Life After Playing Basketball

After retiring as a player, Ronald Dupree stayed involved in basketball. He returned to his old college, LSU, as a student assistant coach in 2014. The next year, he was promoted to director of student development for the team.

In 2016, Dupree became an assistant coach for the Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball team. He worked there for one season. In 2017, he left coaching to join the Milwaukee Bucks NBA team. He now works as a scout for the Bucks, helping them find new talented players.
