Life and Career

Early Life and Training

Roseanne Park, whose Korean name is Park Chae-young (Hangul: 박채영), was born on February 11, 1997. Her parents were South Korean immigrants in Auckland, New Zealand. She has an older sister. In 2004, when Rosé was seven, her family moved to Melbourne, Australia.

As a child, Rosé loved to sing. She learned to play the guitar and piano. She also sang in church choirs. She went to Kew East Primary School and Canterbury Girls' Secondary College in Melbourne. She left school before her final year to join YG Entertainment.

In 2012, Rosé tried out for YG Entertainment in Sydney. She went because her father suggested it. She was the best out of 700 people who auditioned. Rosé thought her father's idea was a joke at first. She didn't think she had a chance to become a K-pop star from so far away. Two months later, she signed with YG as a trainee. She then moved to Seoul, South Korea.

That same year, Rosé sang on a song called "Without You" by G-Dragon. He was also with YG Entertainment. Her name was not known then. Her part in the song was only revealed after she became a member of Blackpink. The song was popular in South Korea.

Becoming a Star with Blackpink and Solo Success

Rosé trained at YG Entertainment for four years. On June 22, 2016, she was announced as the last member of the girl group Blackpink. The group officially started on August 8, 2016. Their first album, Square One, had hit songs like "Whistle" and "Boombayah". In 2018, Blackpink partnered with Interscope Records to reach fans worldwide.

Rosé appeared on TV shows like King of Masked Singer. People loved her singing on the show. Rosé said she was "happy and relieved" that the audience liked her voice. She later performed on Fantastic Duo season two. The show wanted to show off her unique voice. On June 1, 2020, it was announced that Rosé would release solo music. This would happen after Blackpink's first full Korean album.

Rosé's first solo album, R, came out on March 12, 2021. It sold 448,089 copies in its first week. This was a new record for a Korean female solo artist. The music video for her main song, "On the Ground", got 41.6 million views in 24 hours. This broke a record held by Psy for the most-viewed music video by a Korean solo artist in 24 hours. "On the Ground" also reached number one on the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. This made her the first Korean solo artist to top these charts. These achievements earned Rosé two Guinness World Records.

"On the Ground" was very successful in South Korea. It reached number four on the Gaon Digital Chart. It also peaked at number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. This made it the highest-charting song by a female K-pop solo artist there. In the United Kingdom, "On the Ground" was the first song by a female K-pop solo artist to enter the UK Singles Chart. On March 24, Rosé won her first music show award as a solo artist for "On the Ground". She won five more awards for the song. This was for the trailer and finale of the Apple TV+ series Pachinko season two.

On October 18, Rosé released "Apt." with American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars. This was the first song from her debut album, Rosie. The song was a huge hit worldwide. On May 1, Rosé was announced as part of the soundtrack for the 2025 sports action drama film F1. Her song "Messy" was released as the second song from the album on May 8.
